REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE

Quality control

It is important that the quality of materials established for production is kept constant, and in this area, the materials manager has a considerable role to play. Just as the other control departments such as budgetary control. Production control etc, the materials management department is to see that all material specifications established is maintained accordingly.

Quality control can be define as the process whereby  good and services are examined to ensure that they conform with pre-determined standards.

According to Femi Ajanaku; quality control as a “degree of poor or good quality” as it is analyzed in dictionary meaning, but is important at the out set of this discussion on quality to define clearly as possible what quality means.

WHY IS THE NEED FOR QUALITY CONTROL?

The following are the reasons why quality control is needed.

  1. If anyone want to survive and be profit oriented there must be a proper system for the control of materials from the time an order is placed with a supplies, until the material is issued to production. During this period a lot of progressing of orders, follow up or expediting takes place to ensure quality assurance.
  2. Material represents an important assets the largest single Nem of cost in almost every business. Therefore, the success or failure of any conce3rn may depend on efficient control of materials purchase storage, utilization and accounting.
  3. Where material are not systematically controlled excess stock of some items are likely to occur with a consequent tying up of capital and loss through obsolesce and deterioration
  4. Shortage of materials may arise at the time when they are urgently needed and production may be delayed which means loss of money. If materials are not properly controlled.
  5. furthermore, haphazard buying and lack of control is bound to result in the purchase of material of too good or too poor in quality for the purpose for which it is intended and also in the caring of a greater variety of stocks than is required.

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY

INTRODUCTION

In this chapter, we described the research procedure for this study. A research methodology is a research process adopted or employed to systematically and scientifically present the results of a study to the research audience viz. a vis, the study beneficiaries.

RESEARCH DESIGN

Research designs are perceived to be an overall strategy adopted by the researcher whereby different components of the study are integrated in a logical manner to effectively address a research problem. In this study, the researcher employed the survey research design. This is due to the nature of the study whereby the opinion and views of people are sampled. According to Singleton & Straits, (2009), Survey research can use quantitative research strategies (e.g., using questionnaires with numerically rated items), qualitative research strategies (e.g., using open-ended questions), or both strategies (i.e., mixed methods). As it is often used to describe and explore human behaviour, surveys are therefore frequently used in social and psychological research.

POPULATION OF THE STUDY

According to Udoyen (2019), a study population is a group of elements or individuals as the case may be, who share similar characteristics. These similar features can include location, gender, age, sex or specific interest. The emphasis on study population is that it constitutes of individuals or elements that are homogeneous in description.

This study was carried to examine the impacts of quality control on organizational performance. Peugeot Automobile Nigeria Limited form the population of the study.

CHAPTER FOUR

DATA PRESENTATION AND ANALYSIS

INTRODUCTION

This chapter presents the analysis of data derived through the questionnaire and key informant interview administered on the respondents in the study area. The analysis and interpretation were derived from the findings of the study. The data analysis depicts the simple frequency and percentage of the respondents as well as interpretation of the information gathered. A total of eighty (80) questionnaires were administered to respondents of which only seventy-seven (77) were returned and validated. This was due to irregular, incomplete and inappropriate responses to some questionnaire. For this study a total of 77 was validated for the analysis.

Hypothesis was tested using Chi-Square statistical tool (SPSS).

Conclusion

Quality begins and ends with marketing. Quality production is not independent of itself but positively in relation with control which refers to the process of measuring the actual result of the operation of an organization in relation to the result which was planned for the organisation either as a whole of direction and action accordingly. Once customer requirement are defined, a quick reporting process is needed which should be maintained throughout design specification, manufacture and inspection. Quality control refers to an activity in manufacturing industries which aim to establish quality standards check that they are being adhered to take corrective action where necessary and set improved standard where possible. This research concludes that for organisations to achieve quality productions, properly managed quality control techniques are of essence.

Recommendation

Follow-up technique has to be maintain to facilitate the utilization of best practices because of globalization quality control technique has to gain way for best practices in global manufacturing.

Total quality management (TQM) being the management focus on the knowing the needs and wants of customers and on being capable of fulfilling those needs and wants must be taken as responsibility of top executives in all aspect of the overall management function that determines and implements the quality police
