CHAPTER ONE

OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY

  1. To find out factors responsible for low employment opportunities of women.
  2. To find out the effort of Government towards reducing gender inequality.
  3. To examine the implication of gender inequality in the society.

REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE

GENDER RELATIONS

Gender relations are part of social relations, referring to the ways in which the social categories of men and women, male and female, relate over the whole range of social organization, not just to interactions between individual men and women in the sphere of personal relationships, or in terms of biological reproduction. In all aspects of social activity, including access to resources for production, rewards or remuneration for work, distribution of consumption, income or goods, exercise of authority and power, and participation in cultural, political and religious activity, gender is important in establishing people’s behaviour and the outcome of any social interaction. As well as institutions between individual men and women, gender relations describe the social meaning of being male and female, and thus what is considered appropriate behaviour or activity for men and women (Pearson,2000)

DIMENSIONS OF GENDER INEQUALITY AND DISCRIMINATION IN NIGERIA WOMEN AND EDUCATION

Education is said to be a vehicle that break the shackles of poverty thereby leading to transformation, development and progress(Ikoni,2009). With the 2005 MDGs’ first deadline for attainment of gender parity in primary and secondary schools’ enrolment already missed, the ability of women and girls to empower themselves economically and socially by going to school, or by engaging in productive and civic activities is still being constrained by their responsibility for everyday tasks in the household division of labour (CEC Report 2007). In Nigeria, educational facilities are generally believed to be inadequate, and access, limited for many, especially girls and women (Uku 1992). According to the United Nations Human Development Report (2005), Nigeria was classified as a low development country in respect of equality in educational accessibility.

 

CHAPTER THREE

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY

Research design

The researcher used descriptive research survey design in building up this project work the choice of this research design was considered appropriate because of its advantages of identifying attributes of a large population from a group of individuals. The design was suitable for the study as the study sought to the effect of gender inequality on women employment opportunity in Ondo state, Nigeria

Sources of data collection

Data were collected from two main sources namely:

Primary source:

These are materials of statistical investigation which were collected by the research for a particular purpose. They can be obtained through a survey, observation questionnaire or as experiment; the researcher has adopted the questionnaire method for this study.

Secondary source:

These are data from textbook Journal handset etc. they arise as byproducts of the same other purposes. Example administration, various other unpublished works and write ups were also used.

CHAPTER FOUR

PRESENTATION ANALYSIS INTERPRETATION OF DATA

Introduction

Efforts will be made at this stage to present, analyze and interpret the data collected during the field survey.  This presentation will be based on the responses from the completed questionnaires. The result of this exercise will be summarized in tabular forms for easy references and analysis. It will also show answers to questions relating to the research questions for this research study. The researcher employed simple percentage in the analysis.

CHAPTER FIVE

SUMMARY, CONCLUSION AND RECOMMENDATION

Introduction

It is important to ascertain that the objective of this study was to ascertain The effect of gender inequality on women employment opportunity in Ondo state, Nigeria. In the preceding chapter, the relevant data collected for this study were presented, critically analyzed and appropriate interpretation given. In this chapter, certain recommendations made which in the opinion of the researcher will be of benefits in addressing the challenges of gender inequality on women employment opportunity in Ondo state, Nigeria

Summary

This study was on the effect of gender inequality on women employment opportunity in Ondo state, Nigeria. Three objectives were raised which included: To find out factors responsible for low employment opportunities of women, to find out the effort of Government towards reducing gender inequality and to examine the implication of gender inequality in the society. In line with these objectives, two research hypotheses were formulated and two null hypotheses were posited. The total population for the study is 200 staffs of ministry of Labour and productivity, Ondo state. The researcher used questionnaires as the instrument for the data collection. Descriptive Survey research design was adopted for this study. A total of 133 respondents made directors, administrative staffs, senior staffs and junior staffs were used for the study. The data collected were presented in tables and analyzed using simple percentages and frequencies

Conclusion

It is concluded   that women are being   marginalized in the world   of work. Most of   the work available for women is not the types that are decent.  Thus, women are advised to make more efforts to be more educated so that they will be able to have access to better and decent jobs

Recommendation

The policy makers, educational administrators and industrial managers should promote the principle of equality between women and men in various sectors of Nigerian economy

Various arms of government should set up educational and informative programmes on promoting equal status of women and men. This is necessary to improve networks for utilizing findings of research on gender based issues to raise social awareness on the issue of equal rights and opportunities in education and employment.
