CHAPTER TWO
REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE
2.1 DEFINITION OF LEADERSHIP
According to Lawal,A.A.(1993) Leadership is the process of influencing others to work willingly toward an organizational goal with confidence. “Leadership is generally defined simply as the process of influencing people to direct their efforts towards achievement of some particular goal or goals”. According to Koontz, et,al (1985), “Leadership is generally defined simply as the art of influencing people so that they will strive willingly towards the achievement of group goals”. This concept can be enlarging to include not only willingness to work but with zeal and confidence. Nwachukwu,C.C.(2000), sees “Leadership simply as an act that involves influencing others to act toward the attainment of a goal”.Ubeku,A.A.(1975)define leadership as the act of motivating or causing people to perform certain task intended to achieve specified objectives. Leadership is the act of making things happen rather than letting things happen. This the leader does by exerting both intrinsic and extrinsic influences on the group. Even though leadership is the most visible of’ the management functions. Largely because it deals so much with people. It has variedly been referred to as directly, commanding, guiding, Inspiring, initiating, and activating. However, all stand for the same purpose whatever denotation used. The user, as the striking feature of all suggests a relationship through which one person influences the behaviour of other people. Sikula,A.F.(1996).Leadership has different meanings to various authors. Some have interpreted leaders in simple term such as the influence, the art or process of influencing people so that they will strive willingly and enthusiastically towards achievement of group goals (Koontz,et,al (1978).

Secondary source:
These are data from textbook Journal handset etc. they arise as byproducts of the same other purposes. Example administration, various other unpublished works and write ups were also used.
CHAPTER FOUR
PRESENTATION ANALYSIS INTERPRETATION OF DATA
Introduction
Efforts will be made at this stage to present, analyze and interpret the data collected during the field survey. This presentation will be based on the responses from the completed questionnaires. The result of this exercise will be summarized in tabular forms for easy references and analysis. It will also show answers to questions relating to the research questions for this research study. The researcher employed simple percentage in the analysis.

In this chapter, certain recommendations made which in the opinion of the researcher will be of benefits in addressing the challenges of leadership and problems of national development
Summary
This study was on leadership and problems of national development: an assessment of unemployment problem and movement of Nigerian youths to developed countries of the world. Five objectives were raised which included: To identify major reasons for mass movement of youth to Europe, to find out the influence of unemployment on the influx of Nigerian youths, to critically examine the relationship between the problems of leadership and unemployment problem in Nigeria, to provide plausible solutions that could minimize the influx of Nigeria youths to Europe and America in search of greener pasture, to ascertain the effects of leadership on national development in Nigeria. In line with these objectives, two research hypotheses were formulated and two null hypotheses were posited. The total population for the study is 200 residents in some selected local government in Edo state. The researcher used questionnaires as the instrument for the data collection. Descriptive Survey research design was adopted for this study. A total of 133 respondents made up married men, married women, civil servants and youths were used for the study. The data collected were presented in tables and analyzed using simple percentages and frequencies
Conclusion
In conclusion, we have dwelt extensively on the issues of leadership, corruption and governance in Nigeria as captured by scholars and social commentators with an attempt at clarifying the intellectual “cobweb” surrounding leadership, corruption, governance and the categorical imperatives. In addition, searchlight was also beamed on the theoretical framework for a better understanding of the concepts under interrogation. Thus, different theories on the concept of leadership, corruption and governance have been espoused as postulated by scholars. An attempt has also been made to establish the nexus between leadership, good governance and development in Nigeria. Leadership deficit, corruption and bad governance have been an endemic disease, which affects the growth and survival of the Nigerian state and Africa as a continent. The United Nation Human Development Index (HDI, 2011) has put the poverty level of Nigeria to be about 64.7% and as such, majority of the Nigerian population are said to be living under abject poverty.
Recommendation
Recognizing and understanding the importance of managerial leadership means: understanding people, visionary, problem solving, creativity and the ability to motivate the followership towards the shared vision. Undertaking this work requires four key qualities in managerial leaders: Providing purpose, direction and meaning; Building trust; providing optimism; and Focus on action and results. To cope effectively with new challenges, leadership has to imbibe the culture of continuous Learning and continuous training and retraining of the labor force so that the response and adaptive tools may remain constantly sharpened. V. (1991) posits „‟ that in general leaders should try to be pleasant, accommodating, honest, truthful but most of all try to please the greatest number of people who works for you. Managerial leadership can be a hard and lonely road, or an exciting and collaborative trip to a new place. The more, and more useful, strategies you can find to cope with its challenges, the better managerial leader you’ll be
