CHAPTER ONE

OBJECTIVE OF THE STUDY

This study is aimed at the following:

  1. To find out the reasons why students watch pornographic films.
  2. To assess the extent students practice behaviors acquired from viewing pornographic film.
  3. To make suggestions and recommendations on what can be done to stem the viewing of pornographic materials.

CHAPTER TWO  

REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE

NIGERIAN YOUTH AND INTERNET PORNOGRAPHY

With the penetration of Internet into Nigeria’s cyberspace in 2001, many youths have upgraded themselves into using the Internet, and this has negatively led to the pronounced level of moral decadence among Nigerian youths. Porn crept into our society beginning from playboy magazine (foreign magazine), Hollywood movies through the display of sexual scenes and then internet. The major carriers of porn in Nigeria are Internet and movies. Today, Nigerian youths seem to be largest patrons of Internet porns, apart from America. Besides viewing porn materials, you now see explicit sexual materials on mobile phones which come in pictures and videos. A visit to some cybercafés in urban or suburbs in Nigeria will give credence to the above viewpoint. At cybercafés in Nigeria, particularly at nights, young adults aged between 15 and 25 years are usually seen downloading naked pictures of ladies and videos, while tagging their friends on various social media like instagram, badoo and facebook. At other times, they share the weblink with their friends on various social media gateways. Personally, we (the researchers) have been linked to some sites, only to open the link and discover that they are porn sites In all of these, some of these sites permit users to register and upload their own personal porn materials. Moreover, some youths are exposed to these sites unknowingly by either searching the web for information through redirection. Some are tagged on facebook, twitter and YouTube, hence Internet activities can be said to greatly promote pornography.

 

CHAPTER THREE

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY

  • Research design

The researcher used descriptive research survey design in building up this project work the choice of this research design was considered appropriate because of its advantages of identifying attributes of a large population from a group of individuals. The design was suitable for the study as the study sought to effect of student’s exposure to pornographic films in four tertiary institutions in Kwara state Nigeria

Sources of data collection

Data were collected from two main sources namely:

Primary source:

These are materials of statistical investigation which were collected by the research for a particular purpose. They can be obtained through a survey, observation questionnaire or as experiment; the researcher has adopted the questionnaire method for this study.

Secondary source:

These are data from textbook Journal handset etc. they arise as byproducts of the same other purposes. Example administration, various other unpublished works and write ups were also used.

CHAPTER FOUR

PRESENTATION ANALYSIS INTERPRETATION OF DATA

Introduction

Efforts will be made at this stage to present, analyze and interpret the data collected during the field survey.  This presentation will be based on the responses from the completed questionnaires. The result of this exercise will be summarized in tabular forms for easy references and analysis. It will also show answers to questions relating to the research questions for this research study. The researcher employed simple percentage in the analysis.

CHAPTER FIVE

SUMMARY, CONCLUSION AND RECOMMENDATION

Introduction

It is important to ascertain that the objective of this study was to ascertain Effect of student’s exposure to pornographic films in four tertiary institution in kwara state Nigeria. In the preceding chapter, the relevant data collected for this study were presented, critically analyzed and appropriate interpretation given. In this chapter, certain recommendations made which in the opinion of the researcher will be of benefits in addressing the challenges of effect of student’s exposure kwara state Nigeria

Summary

This study was on effect of student’s exposure to pornographic films in four tertiary institution in kwara state Nigeria. Three objectives were raised which included: To find out the reasons why students watch pornographic films, to assess the extent students practice behaviors acquired from viewing pornographic film, to make suggestions and recommendations on what can be done to stem the viewing of pornographic materials. In line with these objectives, two research hypotheses were formulated and two null hypotheses were posited. The total population for the study is 200 students of university of Kwara state. The researcher used questionnaires as the instrument for the data collection. Descriptive Survey research design was adopted for this study. A total of 133 respondents made final year students, year 4 students, year 3 students and year 2 students were used for the study. The data collected were presented in tables and analyzed using simple percentages and frequencies

Conclusion

From the findings of this study, it was shown that youths get exposed to pornography as early as 10 years of age and below with highest age of exposure being between 16 to 18 years. Pornography viewing was evident among students with 96.3% of respondents exposed to some forms of pornography and a small percentage (5%) exposed on a daily basis. Therefore based on the data from this research porn viewing is prevalent among universities students

Recommendation

Therefore the study recommends the Nigerian education sector management should come up with curriculum and programs that addresses age- appropriate sexuality education at all levels. This is to provide sexuality information from balanced and objective sources where the adolescent and young adults are free to engage and to seek for clarification on sexuality issues. In addition, recognizing the prevalence of SEM use among young adult college students and the likelihood that SEM use can begin in childhood and adolescence the study recommends that parents, educators, policy makers, health professional, and law enforcement be equipped with knowledge on sexuality that can enable them foster a supportive environment that can facilitate health development of youth sexuality, while minimizing the risk potential for negative effects related to pornography
