Design and Implementation of Automated Motor Vehicle Driving System

CHAPTER ONE

Objective of the Study

The research project, which is a computerized operation of the Imo state Motor Licensing Authority, is being designed to meet the following objectives.

  • Replace the existing manual method of processing large volumes of customer’s form for registration of vehicles.
  • Issuing driving License
  • Renewing expired licenses as well as changing ownership of vehicles.
  • To provide an efficient data processing system which assists greatly in the coordination of the complex functions of authority.
  • To provide different analysis and report of customer records without delay to the law enforcement agents such as the Police and Road Safety Commission in time of need.

CHAPTER TWO

LITERATURE REVIEW

INTRODUCTION

The computer is an electronic device, which stores information on disc or magnetic tapes, analyzes it, and produces information (report) as required from the data being fed in.

Computer data processing has many advantages over manual data processing such as speeds, accuracy, easy data storage and quick retrieval of information.

Computerized data processing is a means to an end, the end being to assist in the efficient running of an organization. Since the processing of data is an integral part of the main activities of an organization and without it, the organization will collapse. The basic characteristics of any organization is specialization for the efficient service, this means that an organization and separate and distinct function. The performance of all these function in a coordinated manner enables the organization to meet its objectives

However, a computer as an electronic data processing machine cannot function without the necessary software program.

A database program is a set of commands stored in a file to perform a specific function and to generate desired information (output)

On the other hand, a database management system is a software product through which users interact with a database. The actual manipulation of the database structures is handled by the database management system (DBMS). Hence this work develops a database system to be used for Motor Licensing using Imo state Motor Licensing Office Owerri as a case study.

WHAT IS MOTOR LICENSING

First and foremost, I will explain what a motor license is. Firstly, motor can be defined as or can be the act or the process of giving a car owner a go-ahead order to ply on the road.

In other words, motor licensing can be state to be guarantee given to a motorist in order to enable mode of the road without any disturbance of any kind. That is the process of being registered under the motor licensing authority of any given state.

COMPUTER APPLICATION MOTOR LICENSING

There is no business sector that has not felt the impact of the electronic computer. A computer in the simplest language can be defined as a programmable data. Computers have made significance in road into all spheres of human endeavor; they have gained and will continue to gain prominence in Engineering, Commerce, Medicine, and Science and even in social life.

CHAPTER THREE

SYSTEM ANALYSIS, METHODOLOGY AND DESIGN

INTRODUCTION

In this chapter, the method of data or facts are been collected in order to accomplish the progress of this project will be discussed in this chapter. The process of the data design and the means of analyzing the system will also be discussed here.

METHOD OF DATA COLLECTION

In other to do a meaningful work in computerizing the operations of an establishment, the researcher must be acquainted with the actual activities as well as the existing manual mode of operation of the establishment.

CHAPTER FOUR

SYSTEM DEVELOPMENT AND IMPLEMENTATION

DATABASE FILES CREATED

This project work, two database files were created, they include;

Register DBF

This is a master file, which is used to keep record of all these cars are registered by the licensing ‘authority’. On enquiry, any person whose records are not found in the file is regarded as not register at all and this message will be displayed on the screen for the attention of the operator.

CHAPTER FIVE

SUMMARY, CONCLUSION AND RECOMMENDATION

INTRODUCTION

In this chapter, the summary of the whole work done in this project will be narrated and also in this chapter the conclusion and recommendation graph will be drawn.

PROBLEMS ENCOUNTERED

In the process of executing this project work, the researchers encountered some problems, which include:

INCESSANT POWER FAILURE

There was incessant power failure supply, which in no small way delayed the completion of this project. Some files were affected during power failure and they had to be rewritten and retyped.

CONCLUSION

This project work is achieved using MSACCESS, a database management system (DBMS). Since the work s all about data management, there was the need to use a good database management system and MSACCESS was chosen because of its flexibility and effectiveness.
