Chapter One

OBJECTIVE OF STUDY

In carrying out the study the following objectives are held in view

  1. To examine and analyze the probable relationship between production system design and production efficiency
  2. Defining effective management procedures for operating an efficient product system
  3. To identify most of the possible solutions to the problem of production system design
  4. To find out the best out of various operations in the design a product system will have to achieve efficiency in production

CHAPTER TWO

REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE

 INTRODUCTION

In more definite terms production can be described as the process or set of action planning as well as organized to change some set of input components into the desired set of output elements in a nutshell production system in the scientific sense is made up of impute the changing of transformation process putout and elements of control and monitoring devices (Imagh 1980) Production ahs to do with the development of a specified course for a production system over a drawn out duration while production management tends to investigate means or ways of optimizing the production system.  Optimize the production system is to achieve the best possible and this can be said to be the very pillar of goals towards the production of goods and services. Mark ran Thyers and other investigations and found that no doubt here exists some relationship between production management and production system design.  One of the relationships is that while production management deals with the management of the available physical resources that are vital in the production of goods and services in the required quantities to meet market requirements this can only be achieved with an efficient production system design. Though production management has long been associated with the manufacturing sector techniques of it are now being applied to service and the nonmanufacturing sector consequent upon this development the meaning of production management can be broadened to cover systems for the creation of both manufacturing and service organization the only difference between manufacturing organizational and service organizations is that product of the service organizations are perishable by nature. Production management can be broken into the design function and the operation function (Peter Shoeshit 1983) The design function covers decisions as to performance requirements and desired output of the system.  Decision on the different production facilities that are required and their location the method of production to be adopted and the management process to be introduced. The operating function covers production Scheduling and control inventory management and qualifies for control. Production management emphatically deals with production system design and production but this does not mean that we will overlook the planning factor which we regard as production planning.

CHAPTER THREE

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY

Research design

The researcher used descriptive research survey design in building up this project work the choice of this research design was considered appropriate because of its advantages of identifying attributes of a large population from a group of individuals. The design was suitable for the study as the study sought to analysis of production system design and management in the soft drink industry

Sources of data collection

Data were collected from two main sources namely:

(i)Primary source and

(ii)Secondary source

Primary source:

These are materials of statistical investigation which were collected by the research for a particular purpose. They can be obtained through a survey, observation questionnaire or as experiment; the researcher has adopted the questionnaire method for this study.

Secondary source:

These are data from textbook Journal handset etc. they arise as byproducts of the same other purposes. Example administration, various other unpublished works and write ups were also used.

Population of the study

Population of a study is a group of persons or aggregate items, things the researcher is interested in getting information on analysis of production system design and management in the soft drink industry. 200 staff of Nigerian Bottling Company Limited, Owerri plant was selected randomly by the researcher as the population of the study.

CHAPTER FOUR

PRESENTATION ANALYSIS INTERPRETATION OF DATA

 Introduction

Efforts will be made at this stage to present, analyze and interpret the data collected during the field survey.  This presentation will be based on the responses from the completed questionnaires. The result of this exercise will be summarized in tabular forms for easy references and analysis. It will also show answers to questions relating to the research questions for this research study. The researcher employed simple percentage in the analysis.

CHAPTER FIVE

SUMMARY, CONCLUSION AND RECOMMENDATION

Introduction

It is important to ascertain that the objective of this study was on analysis of production system design and management in the soft drink industry. A case study of Nigerian Bottling Company Limited, Owerri plant. In the preceding chapter, the relevant data collected for this study were presented, critically analyzed and appropriate interpretation given. In this chapter, certain recommendations made which in the opinion of the researcher will be of benefits in addressing the challenges of production system design and management in the soft drink industry

Summary

This study was on Analysis of production system design and management in the soft drink industry. A case study of Nigerian Bottling Company Limited, Owerri plant. Four objectives were raised which included: To examine and analyze the probable relationship between production system design and production efficiency, defining effective management procedure for operating efficient product system, to identity most of the possible solution to problem of production system design, to find out best out of various operation in the design a product system will have to achieve efficiency in production. In line with these objectives, two research hypotheses were formulated and two null hypotheses were posited. The total population for the study is 200 staff of Nigerian Bottling Company Limited, Owerri plant. The researcher used questionnaires as the instrument for the data collection. Descriptive Survey research design was adopted for this study. A total of 133 respondents made HRMS, production managers, senior staffs and junior staffs were used for the study. The data collected were presented in tables and analyzed using simple percentages and frequencies

 Conclusion

Segment of market aimed for channel through which to be used retail wholesale, distributors, factors, brokers etc.

Approximation of annual sales aimed for  anticipated profit on this volume estimated starting capital requirement estimated operating cost estimated contingency funds with these uncertainties, being progressively defined according to the evolution of the design and suppliers definitions.

  Recommendation

For effective and efficient distribution system to take place, there must be a corporate planning of all the departments concerned. Transport, sales, production, marketing and purchasing should all work as a team to plan how customers’ can be satisfied best
