Overview of Performance Management
Performance management is a crucial aspect of organizational success that involves a range of activities aimed at improving individual and organizational performance (Soin, 2022). It is a continuous process that involves setting goals, measuring progress, providing feedback, and making necessary adjustments to ensure that individuals and teams are working effectively to achieve organizational objectives (Yarney & Osei-Tutu, 2023). Effective performance management requires a well-designed system that aligns individual and organizational goals and provides a framework for measuring and improving performance (Soin, 2022).
Performance management systems typically involve the use of various tools and techniques to monitor and evaluate performance, such as performance appraisals, feedback mechanisms, and performance metrics (Yarney & Osei-Tutu, 2023). These tools enable organizations to measure progress towards goals, identify areas for improvement, and provide feedback to employees. Moreover, performance management systems play a critical role in motivating employees, improving employee engagement, and enhancing overall organizational performance (Soin, 2022).
In recent years, there has been a growing recognition of the importance of aligning performance management with organizational strategy to enhance organizational performance (Akpa et al., 2022). One approach that has gained popularity in this regard is the Balanced Scorecard (BSC) approach, which provides a framework for measuring and aligning individual and organizational goals with strategic objectives (Yarney & Osei-Tutu, 2023). The BSC approach emphasizes the importance of measuring performance across multiple perspectives, including financial, customer, internal business processes, and learning and growth (Akpa et al., 2022).
Despite the potential benefits of the BSC approach, some organizations may face challenges in implementing and utilizing the approach effectively (Yarney & Osei-Tutu, 2023). For example, organizations may struggle to identify the most relevant metrics to measure performance across the different perspectives, or they may face difficulties in aligning individual and organizational goals with strategic objectives (Akpa et al., 2022). To overcome these challenges, organizations need to invest in training and development to build capacity and ensure that employees have the necessary skills and knowledge to utilize the BSC approach effectively (Soin, 2022).
In conclusion, performance management is a critical aspect of organizational success that involves a range of activities aimed at improving individual and organizational performance. The use of effective performance management systems, including the BSC approach, can help organizations to measure progress towards goals, identify areas for improvement, and align individual and organizational goals with strategic objectives. However, to ensure effective utilization of the BSC approach, organizations need to invest in training and development to build capacity and ensure that employees have the necessary skills and knowledge.

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY
Introduction
This chapter outlines the research design, population, sample size, sampling technique, research instrument, validity and reliability of the study, method of data collection, and method of data analysis. The purpose of this study is to investigate the impact of Balanced Scorecard on the performance of Ghana Commercial Bank. To achieve this aim, a quantitative survey research design was adopted.
Research Design
Research design is a crucial aspect of any study as it outlines the plan for the entire research process. According to Creswell and Creswell (2022), research design encompasses the systematic plan that outlines how researchers will collect, analyze, and interpret data to answer research questions. This study adopts a quantitative survey research design, which is one of the three main research designs commonly used in social science research. The quantitative survey research design involves collecting data from a large number of respondents using a structured questionnaire or survey.
Quantitative survey research design is ideal for this study because it is a powerful tool for collecting and analyzing large data sets (Creswell & Creswell, 2022). This design allows the researcher to collect data from a large sample size and analyze it statistically, making it possible to generalize the findings to the population of interest. Additionally, the quantitative survey research design is well suited for studying cause-and-effect relationships, making it an ideal choice for this study, which seeks to establish the impact of the Balanced Scorecard framework on the performance of Ghana Commercial Bank.
Furthermore, a quantitative survey research design provides a standardized approach to data collection, making it easier to compare and analyze data across different respondents (Bryman, 2022). This consistency enhances the validity and reliability of the findings. The use of a quantitative survey research design also allows for the collection of both categorical and numerical data, which can be analyzed using a range of statistical methods.
Overall, the choice of the quantitative survey research design for this study is justified as it allows for the collection of a large amount of data from a target population, which can be analyzed statistically to make generalizations about the population. The design also provides a standardized approach to data collection, enhances the validity and reliability of the findings, and allows for the collection of both categorical and numerical data.
In summary, the quantitative survey research design is appropriate for this study as it allows for the collection of a large amount of data, which can be analyzed statistically to make generalizations about the population of interest.

SUMMARY OF FINDINGS, CONCLUSION AND RECOMMENDATIONS
Summary of Findings
The objective of this study was to assess the efficiency of the Balanced Scorecard in enhancing the overall performance of Ghana Commercial Bank. The Balanced Scorecard is a strategic tool utilized by organizations to align their objectives, strategies, and activities with their mission and vision. A quantitative research methodology was employed, and data was collected by administering a survey questionnaire to a sample of 90 employees of Ghana Commercial Bank.
The Balanced Scorecard framework emphasizes the importance of measuring and managing performance across various aspects of an organization. It is a popular management tool that has been adopted by many organizations worldwide to help them effectively manage their operations and achieve their strategic objectives. The framework is based on four perspectives: financial, customer, internal processes, and learning and growth. By utilizing this framework, organizations can develop a more balanced approach to managing their performance and ensure that they are meeting the needs of all stakeholders.
The study focused on the effectiveness of the Balanced Scorecard in improving the overall performance of Ghana Commercial Bank. The bank is one of the largest and most established financial institutions in Ghana and is committed to providing high-quality services to its customers. However, the bank was facing challenges in aligning its strategies and activities with its mission and vision. Therefore, the bank decided to adopt the Balanced Scorecard framework to help it achieve its strategic objectives and improve its performance.
The study used a quantitative research methodology to collect data from a sample of 90 employees of Ghana Commercial Bank. The data was collected using a survey questionnaire that was designed to assess the employees’ perceptions of the effectiveness of the Balanced Scorecard in improving the bank’s performance. The survey questionnaire was designed to capture data on various aspects of the Balanced Scorecard framework, including its impact on customer retention, customer satisfaction, internal business processes, streamlining workflows, measuring internal performance, and improving employee productivity.
Conclusion
In conclusion, this study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of the Balanced Scorecard in improving performance at Ghana Commercial Bank.
