Determination of Heavy Metal Concentration in Soil and Water Around Mining Sites in Buruku, Plateau State
CHAPTER ONE
AIM AND OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY
The objective of this project is to assess Heavy Metal concentration in Soil and Water around Mining sites in Buruku, Plateau state. Specifically, the study set out to:
- examine the pH and Electrical Conductivity value obtained for soil and water sampled in mining sites in Buruku, Plateau state
- examine some heavy metals concentration in water and soil sampled in mining sites in Buruku, Plateau state
- obtain the Correlation coefficient (r) for heavy metals concentration in soil and water sampled in in mining sites in Buruku, Plateau state
CHAPTER TWO
Materials
The materials that will be used for the research work include: EDX3600B-Energy Dispersive Xray Fluorescence spectrometer, Jiangsu Skyray information Technology Co. Ltd. China. Oven Galle ham England. Hanna pH 209 and Conductivity meter, Beakers, Mortar and Pestle.
Sampling and collection of materials
The sampling will be done in selected mining sites in Buruku, plateau state located on Latitude 9.5333 and Longitude 8.9000 where localize tin mining activity is presently ongoing, soil and water samples will be collected from nearby mining sites.
CHAPTER THREE
Analysis of solid sample
The use of ED-XRF will be employed in the analysis of the soil samples ED-XRF spectrometry. XRF is based on the principle that individual atoms, when excited by an external energy source, emit x-ray photons of characteristics energy or wave length. By counting the number of photons of each energy emitted from a sample, the elements present may be identified and quantitated.
Proposed method of analysis
Data will be analyzed using the SPSS 16 package, where Anova will be used to analyze the collected data in tables and graphs.
