LITERATURE REVIEW AND THEORETICAL FRAMEWORK
Introduction
This chapter presents the review of scholarly works on divorce and its effects in line with the topic understudy. Also a theoretical frame works follows.
Marital dissolution provides glimpse into the economic effect of institutional forces on family forms. Most marriages are dissolved either by divorce or by death of one of the partners. Research shows that in both cases, women tend to suffer long-term negative economic consequences than men’ are less likely to face (Shelton and Dean 2001).
The extent of a women’s decline in economic status after divorce seems to be related to class and race. The greatest economic’ decline following divorce occurs for women whose pre-divorce family incomes were highest. The factors that seem to intensify the negative economic consequences of marital dissolution for women appear to be related to gender roles in traditional nuclear families and to wage inequalities based on sex and race in the formal labour market. (Shelton and John 1999).
However, divorce affects not only adults but also children and it also follows children into adulthood. Children of divorced parents have less contact with either father of their mother which in turn affect their socialization. They are also less likely to marry and more likely to divorce when they grown-up (Amato 2001).
Anger, depression, and anxiety are common feeling at divorce. But so is relief. Women are more likely than men to feel that the divorce is giving them a new chance in life a new couples manage to remain friends through it all-but they are the exception. The spouses who initiates the divorce usually gets over it sooner.

The method that will be used to carry out this research is called the survey method. This is one form of descriptive research that is aimed at collecting large and small samples from a population in order to examine the distribution, incidence, and interaction of sociological phenomenon (Denga and Ali 2002). Survey is a series of questions asked of a number of people. Sometimes the questions are asked orally, either face to face or over the phone. Other time people are giving lists of questions on paper and asked to write in their own answer. In other words, the method will be based on the selection of samples from large population to obtain empirical knowledge of a contemporary nature. The knowledge that had been gathered using this design could be used to make acceptable generalization about the whole population from which the sample had been drawn. The survey method is a strategy used to find the meaning and obtained understanding of present conditions, attitudes, opinions, beliefs and so on. It stressed the importance of understanding properly the situation in order to know the directions on what follows and how to get there.
