CHAPTER ONE
Objectives of the study
The general objective of the study is to evaluate effective human resource management as a key to the accomplishment of organizational goals a case study of Nigeria bottling company PLC, Owerri plant. The specific objectives are to:
- examine the nature of human resource management in Nigeria bottling company PLC, Owerri plant.
- examine the impact of human resource management on achieving organizational goals in Nigeria bottling company PLC, Owerri plant.
- identify the challenges facing human resource management in Nigeria bottling company PLC, Owerri plant.
CHAPTER TWO
LITERATURE REVIEW
Introduction
The chapter deals with literature review on the concept of effective human resource management as a key to the accomplishment of organizational goals a case study of Nigeria bottling company PLC, Owerri plant. This involves various definitions of Human Resource Management, productivity, benefits of Human Resource Management, the review of empirical studies, theoretical review, theoretical framework and summary of literature review.
Conceptual Review
In this section, the basic relevant concepts were reviewed. These include Human Resource Management, productivity, among others.
Human Resource Management
According to Schuler & Jackson (1987); Schuler & Macmillan (1984); and Wright & Snell (1991); Human Resource Management comprises of the activities of an organization directed towards the management of the human resources and taking care of the facts that the resources are appointed at the right place and time for the right purpose for the fulfilment of the goals of the organization. The human resources manager plays a key role in the formulation of the strategies and policies of human resources management. He designs and implements the manpower plan, recruitment, training, and compensation systems of the organization, (Martand, 2007). According to Susan, (2005), Human resource management is the function within an organization that focuses on recruitment of, management of and providing direction for the people who work in the organization. Human Resource management can also be performed by line manager. Human resource management is the organizational function that deals with issues related to people such as compensation, hiring, performance management, organization development, safety, wellness, benefits, employee motivation, communication, administration and training. Susan, (2012). Human resource management is also strategic and comprehensive approach to managing people and the work place, culture and environment. Effective Human resource management enables employees to contribute effectively and productively the overall company direction and the accomplishment of the organization’s goal and objectives. Susan (2012).
CHAPTER THREE
RESEARCH METHODOLOGY
Introduction
This chapter covers the methodology of this study. Key issues discussed includes; data collection, sampling technique, instrument for data collection, method of data analysis among others.
CHAPTER FOUR
DATA PRESENTATION AND ANALYSIS
Introduction
In this chapter, the researcher tends to deal with the analysis and presentation of data collected in the course of this project. A total of 400 copies of questionnaire were administered in the area under study and 372 copies were retrieved from the respondents. This represents 93% return rate.
CHAPTER FIVE
SUMMARY, CONCLUSION AND RECOMMENDATION
Introduction
This chapter deals with the summary of this study, conclusions from the findings and recommendations which can be used for policy making.
Summary
This study explores effective human resource management as a key to the accomplishment of organizational goals a case study of Nigeria bottling company PLC, Owerri plant. The study is in five chapters. In the first chapter, a general background of the study was undertaken. In view of the background, the problems of study were identified and stated, the research questions, the objective, scope and significant of the study were outline and discussed. Finally in the first chapter is the definition of key concepts used in the study.
Chapter two contains the review of various literatures on the concept of effective human resource management as a key to the accomplishment of organizational goals a case study of Nigeria bottling company PLC, Owerri plant. This involves various definitions of Human Resource Management, productivity, benefits of Human Resource Management. Also in the second chapter is the empirical and theoretical reviews, theory use as a basis for this study (Theory X and Y) was found best for this study.
In the third chapter of this work, the research design, population of study, sample size, sampling techniques, instrument for data collection, method of data collection, validity/reliability of instrument and method of data analysis were all discussed.
In the fourth chapter, data collected (primary) were presented and analysed to answer the research questions. Based on the various findings, the three questions were answered. After the analysis, the findings are as follows:
- Human Resource Management has significant effect on achievement of organizational goals.
- Regular change of directors, ineffectiveness constitute a major challenge to Human Resource Management.
Conclusion
This study has underscored explores effective human resource management as a key to the accomplishment of organizational goals a case study of Nigeria bottling company PLC, Owerri plant. Findings from this research uncovered that effective human resource management help achieve organizational goals. Hence management should try to ensure effective human resource management. This is consistent with the findings of P.V.C. Okoye and Raymond A. Ezejiofor (2013); which revealed that human resource development is very vital to any organizations ranging from small to large scare enterprise since it is well known that no business can exist entirely without human being also that one of the major functions of human resource development is the engagement of people to work in order to achieve sales growth and profitability another finding is that the method of training and development as gathered from interview contracted by the researcher are just by reason of the problems the company has due to lack of fund. This was further reiterated in the findings of James Nwoye Obi (2015); which corroborate that Human resources serve as the driving force that keeps the corporate wheels of progress rolling. Effective management of human resources is the key to high productivity and profitability in every organization. Effective management will include, motivation of the workforce, competitive remuneration, adequate staff training and management development programmes to constantly up-date the skills and knowledge of the entire employees. Provision of medical facilities and good working conditions are paramount because a healthy worker is a productive worker.
The findings of this study have clearly shown that effective human resource management make a very significant contribution to the overall effectiveness and profitability of an organization.
Recommendations
On the strength of the observations and findings made in this study the following recommendations have been made.
- Effective human resource management should be encouraged.
- Challenges hindering effective human resource management should be stopped.
Limitations to the Study
The study faced some constraints. They include insufficient literature material, financial constraint, time constraint, location of the case study, however findings is valid for policy recommendations.
Suggestions for Further Studies
This study has researched on effective human resource management as a key to the accomplishment of organizational goals a case study of Nigeria bottling company PLC, Owerri plant. Further research can be done on the following:
- The influence of effective human resource management on the profitability of organizations in Nigeria.
- The influence of effective human resource management on the long-term survival of an organization.
